While Angel retrieves his notebook, she is stabbed in the neck with her garden shears Angel gives chase but loses the killer. Whilst buying Danny a late birthday gift, Angel learns from Leslie Tiller, the village florist, about her plans to sell her land to Merchant's business partners. A local journalist, Tim Messenger, approaches Angel at a village fête, claiming to have information, but a cloaked figure dislodges masonry atop the church's tower, which falls and kills Messenger. That night, a cloaked figure attacks wealthy land developer George Merchant in his home and kills him in a deliberate gas explosion.Īngel suspects that the killings are connected to a recent property deal. Angel warms to Danny, and they binge-watch action movies at Danny's home. Sent to resolve a small dispute, Angel discovers an illegal weapons stash, including an old sea mine, and confiscates it. Angel is the only officer who suspects foul play. His partner, PC Danny Butterman, whom he arrested for drink-driving, is a fan of buddy cop films and is the son of Inspector Frank Butterman, Angel's superior.Ī cloaked axe-wielding figure decapitates Martin Blower and Eve Draper, the two lead actors of an am-dram production of Romeo and Juliet, whom Angel had pulled over for speeding, and stages it as a car accident. Angel is soon frustrated by the mundanity of the village, his lazy and incompetent colleagues, and the local police and Neighbourhood Watch Alliance (NWA) commitment to low crime statistics rather than law enforcement. He survives and is arrested by the police.Plot : PC Nicholas Angel, a high-achieving Metropolitan Police officer, is promoted to Sergeant, but his resentful colleagues arrange for him to be reassigned to the small rural town of Sandford, Gloucestershire, a regular 'Village of the Year' winner.

When Skinner rushes forward trying to stab Nicholas, he trips on a toy truck and impales his chin on the roof of the model church. Nicholas and Skinner start fighting in the model village. Skinner and Butterman see a swan on the road and swerve out of the way, crashing the car near a model replica of Sandford. Nicholas and Danny give chase in their police car. After knocking him out by shoving him into the freezer, Nicholas and Danny run into Skinner's office to see him getting into a police car with Danny's father Frank Butterman. When Nicholas and the Sandford police enter the supermarket, Nicholas is attacked by the trolley boy. Nicholas later returns and defeats most of the NWA with the help of Danny and the rest of the police force. As the members chase Nicholas down, Danny appears and fakes stabbing him saving him from the mob. The NWA were the ones killing off anyone who endangered the chances of Sandford winning the title of Village of the Year. There, Nicholas learns the secret behind the murders. Impersonating the trolley boy, he is told to head over to the castle. Nicholas knocks out the trolley boy and and picks up the walkie-talkie he was holding. Fearing he knows too much, Simon sent over the trolley boy that works at his supermarket to kill Nicholas. Simon dismisses the theory, saying Nicholas has no evidence. Nicholas confronts him and accuses him of committing the murders to stop the construction of a bypass due to the possibility that a rivaling supermarket might be built there. Due to the creepy hints he drops, Nicholas Angel believes that he is the murderer. Simon Skinner is the manager of Somerfield, Sandford's supermarket.
